Political Theory: Economic and Social Applications

There are four elements to this alternative learning activity.


1. Two elements fall under the topic:
   a. Political Theory and Political Economy
   b. Political Theory and Social Theory
2. And the other two elements fall under the the task of this activity.
Based on the readings provided on the above given topic, you are to post either:
   a. Your analysis of the text.
   b. Your proposed theory in relation to any of the two topics.


For based on a previous reading, John Meynard Keynes provided a theory on how the state can steer its economy away from deppression by propossing government spending as a tool to stimulate monetary flow.


You may point out a particular problem and posit your own, original theories.


Don't forget to limit posts to 5 sentences.

You may respond to posts of your classmates, thus bringing about a proper discourse.


Marks will be given as follows


12 pts insight/analysis

This is where you may post your thoughts and ideas regarding Sections 3 and 15-16 of Article XIII of the Freedom Constitution.


As a guide, think of Human Resources or  Labor Relations applications of the constitutional provisions.  And don't forget to frame your posts as I have instructed previously in class.


Posts will be given recitation marks as follows (the marks will be included in the computation of your average recitation grade):

Low quality answers will get no points (presence of grammatical errors, unsupported statements.

80-86 for average posts (common suggestions, ideas have no cohesion).

88-94 good posts (well thought of, coherent ideas, uses class references w/ appropriate citation)

96-100 excellent posts (well thought of, coherent, insightful ideas, used additional research w appropriate citation)

A Scene from the Political Theory Debate

It is with Saxonhouse's article that part A of our course syllabus culminates.  As you can observe, the Political Theory Debate can be traced in the articles from Bishirjian until Saxonhouse.  Each article raising important issues, resolutions, concepts and even actual scenarios.

With what you have learned from these readings, you are tasked to make a graphic, artistic portrayal of either a scene, issue, concept, or resolution in the political theory debate.

This can either be in the form of an editorial cartoon, a photoshoped collage or whatever artistic style you want to use.  Though, it must be submitted on a short bond paper on January 5, 2012.

Through this graphic, a particular viewer must be able to appreciate the what the message of your art is all about.

This will be equivalent to a 20 item take home quiz.

The marks are as follows:

10 pts for content (the graphic must have a comprehensible meaning relevant to the topic, must show knowledge and understanding of the political theory debate, and must have significant insight to get a perfect 10)

6 pts artistry

4 pts presentability

An example (which may not be used anymore) is the arrival of the emigre scholars  This though would be too broad as an example, if you use it you must have a specific point in mind.

Political Science and the Profession: Institutional Dynamics

In politics, there's institutions that guide the human behavior and thus create social order.  Sometimes these institutions take on a personality based on those who hold the reigns of power.  The interactions and relationships between institutions (such as the three main branches of the Government) may or may not lead to social, economic or political development.  Institutional dynamics occurs when such interactions lead to progress or bring about what the goal of government or triumph what is right, just and good.  

I have provided a link below regarding a recent interaction between the three main branches of the government.  and I want you as students of PS 201, to analyze the situation whether or not the interaction between the involved institution bring about institutional dynamics, or political development.  

Are the involved institutions, particularly the personalities who run the institutions doing their jobs?  And if yes are they doing their jobs well?  Justify your answers sensibly and substantially.
