2Pol3 - Make a Nation

Vladimir Lenin gave us a set of parameters to identify a nation. Amita Ramanujan in Numb3rs (First Law) discussed the Turing test which makes us question is there really a difference between the real and the artificial. I discussed Civic and Ethnic nationalism before.

Here's another pairing. Primordial and Modern Nationalism. If we attempt to put both pairings together, Primordial Nationalism believes in natural components as foundations of the nation such as similar biological components, just the same as Ethnic nationalism.  Primordial nationalism though traces its origins from very deep in the historic past, whereas Modern is a nation born or created in contemporary times.

Modern and civic though maybe similar but not equivalent to each other. Modern nationalism considers the nation as the product of creation rather than natural progression.

In comparison, Civic nationalism implies a nation which may or may not be created. It's different from Ethnic because in Ethnic nationalism the people naturally believe in being one, or there has always been a foundational reason to be one (similarity of language). It does  mean that having Ethnic nationalism is good or bad.  Civic Nationalism requires a certain degree of education among peoples, whether among a select few or in all members of the community.

In comparison to Modern nationalism, Civic nationalism leans towards a culture of democracy and development.  It is specific towards this particular path, Modern nationalism is more general, it can be geared towards the dictatorship of one person, or it can be for the benefit of all.

Here are examples:

Ethnic nationalism exists among American Indian Tribesmen.  One can argue that nationhood is a foreign concept, but these people's already considered themselves as one.  It is also considerable as a Primordial Nation, it's ancient and progressed naturally in time.

A perverted version of Ethnic nationalism though is

Civic Nationalism is that of the Illustrados in the Philippines or that of the educated middle class in several liberal parts of Europe, particularly United Kingdom.  The nation had to be created.  In the Philippines, the nation was created against the colonizers so that the Filipinos can be as one and independent.  The United Kingdom had to create the nation to unify the parts of the British Isles which composed it (England, Wales and Scotland, and Northern Ireland).

The example of Civic nationalism is also modern.  It's not something that existed in the ancient or classical past.  A different example of modern nationalism though would be transnational migrants who start to create their own separate nationhood from those who are in the place of origin (e.g. Japanese Brazilians are not considered as Japanese).

For your task regarding this lesson.  In 5-7 sentences, I want you to propose a way to either make artificial nationalism better or to improve ethnic nationalism.  This way should be an idea that can be put into action by a government so that people can be molded into one.

Write your plan in terms of

Sentence containing proposal (this is your argument).  Followed by supporting statements (explanation), and proving statements (examples, whether hypothetical or real).

Example (i'm giving a different sample, this one argument on how nationalism is bad.)

I suggest that the government should do away with projects that support Filipino nationalism, and focus instead on globalization.  The Philippines is a cosmopolitan community composed of different identities.  Pushing them together causes more division than unity.

One example is the difference in language between Manilenos and Cebuanos.  Another is the continuing strif in Mindanao.  These conflicts hinder development.  Hence the Philippines should actually focus on development itself.

Just an example, I know you can do better than me (not being sarcastic, just encouraging you).

Marks will be given for:
3 for clarity
5 for logical feasibility of your plan.
3 for following instructions
4 for originality

15 pts in total.  Take note that these marks are given not ranged hence, it's either 3 or 0 for clarity.  Zero-sum.

In strengthening artificial nationalism, the government already did their part in encouraging foreigners with the slogan of “It’s more fun in the Philippines”. The government can employ more citizenship laws to recognize foreigners wishing to reside in the country permanently.

The importance of having more civic nationalism is to encourage foreigners with bright minds to give their contributions to the country. An example of a citizenship law that I imagined is having the foreigners have equal rights among the Filipinos, except that they will have help in settling in. More and more foreigners have settled in the country, but most of them are getting discriminated for being different.

  5. With the recently held protests from Mindanao to Manila, ethnic groups in the Philippines have started to protest their rights to their ancestral lands. The Philippine government should enact/improve laws focused on the ethnic tribes for them to feel their sense of belonging in our country to promote their nationalism.

There were alleged reports of human rights violations, killings and land grabbing which were the triggering points for their protests. Preceded by many cultural difficulties and protests, the case of the Lumads started the “Manilakbayan” which was a protest not only by the Lumads, but also the gathering of other ethnic tribes that felt the need to voice out their rights. These people are the backbone of our country, they feel the cultural barrier that is visible in our midst, and they heed our call for a unified nation.

The Philippine government should reform the curriculum of the educational system through an implemented law that would solely teach the students with the Filipino values, nationalism, and discipline at an early age, preferably from preschool to second grade. The education of the Philippines is one of the factors that burden Filipino nationalism, especially its system which was followed from a foreign (i.e. American) type of education, where a child would be taught with the traditional ‘basic education’ – memorizing the alphabets, formulating sentences, and learning math and science – preceding the lectures on values and nationalism. The result would be, as quoted by C.S. Lewis, “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make a man more clever devil.” Even though what he meant of ‘values’ was the Bible, however, ‘values’ must be taken as something that should be imbibed in every Filipino that would acclaim the Filipino nationalism. A person’s personality is fully developed by the age of 7 and therefore, by teaching the child Filipino values, nationalism, and discipline preceding the traditional ‘basic education’, Filipino nationalism will be embedded in every Filipino. Based on the 2010 Census of Population and Housing in the Educational Attainment of Household population, 27.5% of more than 80 million Filipino citizens were elementary undergraduate, and by implementing this kind of law, nationalism would remain in the Filipinos even if they did not finish studying, however, proper education is still a must.

In the present day situation of the Philippines wherein there are numerous changes in the form of government ruling from the previous liberal democratic government to the rising dictatorial ruling of Duterte, the people who are believing in democracy and liberalism are now emerging. Protests from these people are now being prevalent not only in the form of rallying on the streets but also in social media where in the dissemination of information is fast. If the government will continue to do inhumane acts towards the Filipinos, just like the extrajudicial killings that are results from his Oplan Tukhang or War on Drugs, the artificial nationalism of the opposition will be empowered. As a proposal, the diversion of the Filipinos attention to international conflicts like that of the territorial conflict with China should be highlighted. In this case, ethnic nationalism in the Philippines will be strengthened and their grudges against the current government will be diverted to the external conflict with China. For it is only in times of foreign aggression will a country be united.

I propose that different government agencies should conduct programs or events where different indigenous groups and the government officials can communicate. For example, a certain government agency could conduct an event where in a certain indigenous group can introduce their culture to the government officials of a certain province or city, and no it won’t be in a form of seminar. It would be kind of like a socialization thing, a dinner, or even a party where these two different cultures would simply interact and talk about anything under the sun. Plus, this might be a chance for the two groups to be more open to the needs of the other. This way, civil conflicts, like the one with the Lumads, would be lessened and can be avoided sometime in the future.
In the years that passed by, there were conflicts within the society, which I believe is one of the things that blocks the country’s road path towards progression. It might sound too cliché, but communication really is the key, without it, how can the Filipino unite, especially in times of crisis?

I recommend that one way to make artificial nationalism better is by including all the different ethnic groups in the decision making of the nation, as if it is created through ethnic nationalism means, and by trying to get rid of the ethnic or regional divisions as time passes by. Since the Philippines is said to be a product of civil nationalism, it is only natural for it to have conflicts in the ethnic or even primordial level as seen in the conflict with the Muslims and pretty much every regions and tribes that are against Imperial Manila. But this problem can be solved if we make compromises by giving them more chance to participate in governing while slowly making them feel and believe as if we are truly a nation that was made through ethnic or primordial means.
The United Kingdom who has recently left the EU is facing a problem of losing their northern frontier of Scotland because of that decision, the Scot’s want out because it was not their decisions to leave thus there are calls for a referendum, three years after their last one. Despite not having conflicts like ours, the UK has a serious threat to the nation that they created by artificial means. One take on this is because the majority did not consider Scotland’s stance when they left the EU, and another thing is that the divisions between the four main regions is to pronounce to the extent that most citizens still refer to themselves by regionalist names of referring nationality such as Scottish and English. Their situations is similar to the Philippines to some extent with the Muslim south threatening to detach itself from the country, therefore we must eliminate this regional tendencies and include everyone in governing the nation that was created for us in order to strengthen this artificial nationalism.

What my proposition is the government should impose a law that will bridge the language gaps in the Philippines. A language planning which aims at an effective communication within the speech community where the government will influence the acquisition of languages and their respective functions within the speech community through the education system.

With how linguistically diverse the country is, language barrier can arguably be the root cause of the demarcations as it increases the probability of miscommunication and miscommunication often results to conflict, the fuse that causes division. An example case would be the hatred of Ilokanos to the Tagalogs due to the hierarchy of languages that privileges the Tagalog over other vernaculars. This results to a division.

The government must consider art and culture as a key to unite people because art and culture produces its own timeline and connects the modern to the past. Filipinos are known to be creative and expressive in terms of art to put on view their happiness and sadness as well as their success and hardships. Through art, Filipinos can relay the history of the Philippines as well as give message to the future generations.
Some examples were the literary arts made by Dr. Jose Rizal which were El Filibusterismo, Noli Me Tangere and Sa Aking mga Kabata. El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere depicts the sufferings that the Filipinos experienced in the hands of the Spaniards while Sa Aking mga Kabata relays Dr. Jose Rizal’s message to the future generation that the youth is the hope of the country. Art can also be in other forms such performing arts performed in a theatre or visual arts such as the spolarium of Juan Luna displayed in a museum wherein Filipinos can enjoy at the same time understand the message that it conveys. Therefore ethnic nationalism can be improved by Filipinos’ creativity.

The Filipinos Against All Others: Raising Ethnic Nationalism

In order to improve and boost ethnic nationalism in the Philippines, the government should create an awareness campaign with an objective of disseminating information regarding the current issue and stand of the country against foreign aggressors who are also taking part in claiming these territories, namely the Scarborough Shoal, Spratly Island, Sabah, Palmas or Miangas Islands, and the Panatag Shoal. An example is the dispute against China over some territories they are claiming, if ever they would decide to declare war against the Philippines, there is a huge possibility that every single person aware of the situation will have a sense of solidarity together with every Filipino and would see their fellowmen as a brother. Every single person will fight with the vision of doing it to save what their country believes is theirs. It is apparent that this project will heighten the Filipino spirit of being one, as a nation, against all odds. They will have a burning desire of wanting to take part in action in protecting the country’s rights and in defending it from any foreign country that lays any interest in exploiting and owning what the Filipinos fight for as their property. Triumph, resulting from this unity will further develop the yearning for a better future for the country thus, intensifying ethnic nationalism.

  13. Españo, Alyza - The youth is not just beneficiaries but they also have the potential in shaping policy. Nevertheless, the Filipino youth seems to be dormant in the issues of their country and can't lower themselves or to be humble in the community. It might be the Filipino youth are so much boastful with the knowledge they had that caused partition among their interests. In this sense, the Filipino youth is focusing on their self-interest and forgot the foundation of solidarity and humility through genuinely listening to the concerns of the people. Utilization of networks and facilitation through involvement of members in the community enhance the democratic and policy performance. From that, the Filipino youth ought to be responsive and see the dimensions of issues to craft policy for the common good of the nation. Thus, the Filipino youth has the capability to empower and unite the nation through participatory development.

This student adheres that in order to strengthen Artificial Nationalism, the government must impose a strict and mandatory National Educational Curriculum which accurately depicts the people’s common history and national heritage. Education is a great medium for information dissemination starting from childhood to adulthood. This in turn will led to the formation of a strong national identity among people.

Citing as an example Germany’s educational curriculum wherein people were taught of the accurate account of their history that is why by just hearing the name of ‘Adolf Hitler’ or seeing pictures of tourists posing in the former Nazi Extermination Camps pave the way to German anger. Japan and South Korea was also molded, beginning in childhood, with an educational curriculum that will teach and preserve traditional values. This is the failure in the Philippine Republic wherein the educational curriculum is so much inclined to other nations (like that of the US). This is the very reason why a large portion of the Filipino populace has a wrong notion of former President Ferdinand Marcos as a “hero” and as someone who brought the Philippines into paradise.

Ethnic Nationalism is a form of nationalism wherein the nation is defined in terms of ethnicity. Improvement of the government should include the diversity of each land, basically to be federalized in order to maintain the unity of the state. With ethnicity, the state of belonging to a social group that has a common national tradition, should be developed with this suggestion of federalism. Stating the fact that one of our current President Duterte’s goal is to divide each state and to make it a federalist one. Having the state divided, should focus a state on its own cultural situation (example: Mindanao, having its own power should be able to stabilize its nation of its own.) with federalism, the state sovereignty; the government will superintend the enumerated powers in constitution and all other powers will be vested with the state.

Gender inequality is one of the widely debated issue in the present time, however, whenever people hear those words, they will often associate it with the oppression of women in the society, thus forgetting the other colors in the gender spectrum, especially with men. In the Philippines, it is evident that not all people are represented as there are so little projects seen that will cater men’s health and rights, like how women does. In addition, men are humans, they can feel all sort of emotion like how women does, however, they will often turn their feelings into violence in fear that if they cry out for help, it would make it seem like they are less of a man. Last 2014, Emma Watson had her speech during the launch of UN’s HeforShe movement, with the aim of empowering not only women but also men to join this for a change. Here, she said that suicide is one of the biggest killer of men aging 20 to 49 in the UK.

Having said that, I suggest that if the government wants to push through the equality that people has been striving, they shouldn’t just focus on women but should also provide their counterpart the rights that they deserve.

The government should be more diverse on hiring, appointing, and electing the members of the administration, giving chances to those people (especially women and the LGBTQ+ community) who are being hindered because of what they are as what they are perceived of. Looking what is inside the government and the institutions, it is well obvious that majority of the people in power are men. And most do not represent each and everyone of the nation, especially the marginalized.

An example is the representation of the LGBTQ+ community, which has none in the House of the Representatives. 'Ladlad', the partylist that represents the said community, was not able to secure a seat because of the lack of votes; thus, the needs of the community are not being prioritize because of the lack of representation. Another is that the lack of women in politics creates an illusion that we are still living in a patriarchal society.

I propose that the Philippine government promote nationalism by prioritizing the use of their own native language by making Filipino as the medium of instruction. As of today, English is the official language used in teaching, however it came to a point wherein the Commission on Higher Education wanted to remove Filipino subjects from the new education curriculum but due to the campaigns that transpired against the government, the mentioned institution decided to no longer pursue such action. Language is the most important thing for a particular country or nation because it not only equates their own identity but can also help in the country's development.

As an illustration, in comparison to the Philippines, Japan is a country that reflects homogeneity rather than diversity. People in Japan does not know how to speak English fluently because their main concern is learning their own culture and language. Nonetheless, they are still one of the most progressive countries in East Asia. That being the case, the Philippines should use language as a medium for promoting Filipino nationalism.

The government should allot attention and funds on making laws that will help preserve different festivals in the country and promote them even further for the growth of the country’s tourism locally and internationally. Examples of these are the Ati-Atihan in Aklan, Sinulog in Cebu, Panagbenga in Baguio, Aliwan in Pasay, Pintados in Tacloban, MassKara in Bacolod and many more. These celebrations manifest the uniqueness of culture within each provinces and regions in the Philippines that showcases special features found in that specific community (food, art, religious beliefs, natural resources, etc). Although there are great differences between these local areas, the huge diversity of festive commemorations can also show how a large population of people can gather in one single event and this reflects their ethnic connection and love of the nation they belong to.
The great variety of celebrations in the Philippines presents how rich the country is in terms of God given talents, natural graces, and tradition. By enacting and executing programs focused on different festivals, it will help maintain the customs upheld by those and it will be passed on to the future generations even taking up the process of developing.

The Department of Education should mandate the use of the Filipino language in the primary years of education to instill patriotism, hone well-educated citizens, preserve the Filipino culture, and strengthen national identity. In the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, people who speak different languages can never share the same reality. Securing the use of one national language allows students to know, realize and share the goals of the nation. The use of the Filipino language is also an essential tool in preserving and portraying a nation's culture. Having a distinctive language offers people something to identify themselves with especially when asked to describe who they are thereby strengthening national identity. Using our language in the early years ensures a higher level of comprehension among its speakers and inculcates in them a deep love for the nation and for the language itself, which is crucial in molding capable citizens who will contribute to the nation's development. This practice has long been exercised in Japan wherein a child's primary years are mostly spent on values education taught in their mother tongue language, Nihongo, resulting in more disciplined and loyal Japanese citizens.

As an avid supporter of Philippine Basketball, I suggest that the government, together with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, should not just maintain their efforts in making the national team program better, but rather increase it. In this way, the government would be able to promote and make the artificial nationalism – caused by Filipino basketball-craze – better and more solidified.
The best example for this would be the tournaments that are joined by the Gilas Pilipinas basketball team. Each game in these tournaments clearly unites the Filipino people, as each and every one cheers and roots for one team – our national team. Another example that would prove that basketball is a unifying sport would be the unified support by the Thomasian students for the UST Tigers. Thus, the government should take basketball seriously and help promote its national program.

Progression and adaptation are the key words for a nation to either survive and develop in the world. It must opt on changing the cycle or the system that will best suit the condition of the society or if there is a need to the point wherein they need to constitute a matter that will serve a pattern of homogenousity for them to live by. There are languages that were born due to oppression or due to factions that they have built, even if it is out of their ethnicity issues. Artificial Nationalism provides a better notions because it prioritizes details and origins of matters, it has one flow path towards in making a nation more rich in terms of concepts. And it will make the nation more harmonious due laying out of matters in a way from nothing to adapting, developing and progressing.

I suggest that government should give more attention to the OFW's, and should propose more projects and/or alternatives that would bring Filipinos together around the world. In that way it would help them grasp the concept of nationalism. It would be a good stepping stone to make them feel that they still belong and it that way they would still be reminded where they came from. Distance should not be a barrier, it would be a proficient way in achieving unity and oneness since it would perceive them that they are still a Filipino and in that way they would not forget their national identity.

The Philippines, containing more than 7,000 islands, housing numerous traditions, ideologies and cultures, making it unique compared to most countries unthaw world. Thus, I believe that the government shouldn't promote artificial nationalism because the very essence of nationalism would be destroyed, If we would go through with artificial nationalism, we would be one as a nation but our identity as a people would be lost. I suggest that we just improve our ethic nationalism in order to develop a more solidified identity as a country. Like the Muslims and Indigenous people in the Mountain Province, we shouldn't discriminate against them but instead embrace the differences in our identities, traditions and culture, and respect them as a people, that is true nationalism. What makes a country genuinely special is not merely its similarities but its ability to create an identity that is synergetic with its different cultures found in the different regions and makes the country more solidified in doing so -- that is true nationalism.

With the rise of capitalists, there has been a limited progress in the country that leans more on them. I suggest that the government should cooperate with the capitalists to strategize projects in which can help the marginalized. One of the common notion is to build more companies that can provide ‘steady’ jobs to them. Although, it would be more practical if they would focus on the concept of education, like building schools, providing scholarships, and etc. In education, it will not just hone the person but it lets infinite opportunities come to them. In addition, these opportunities allows them to progress together. There has been a number of companies and government organizations that offers scholarships, like ChED, DOST, Unilever PH, and etc.

Philippines, today, is facing a plight of improper allocation of resources and the incapacity to address the local population's needs. The government should continue amending the Local Government Code and promote federalism. The revisions needed include mechanisms that would ensure the supposed empowerment of the localities, and their respective ethnicities in every region.

Manila continues to be the most prosperous and progressive city in the Philippines. The gap between Manila and the rest of the more poverty-stricken cities are noticeable and alarming in their contributions for the Philippine economy.

Ethnic nationalism is that kind of nationalism that should be nourished further by the people of the biosphere. It is nice and proper to say that a simple act of respecting the roots of a person improves his ethnicity, his faith, his language, and his ancestry shared together will all the other people with the same roots with him. It is the duty of the government to give honor and respect to a person's ethnicity no matter what tribe or group he came from. These simple ways can give glory to a tribe and at the utmost point, it can make them known for less disrespect from other people and also for their own good. This is not only for their good, but also for the good of all people

The government should revise the constitution that will change our curriculum; it shall include within its provision a law that that states all primary schools nationwide should teach first the primary language in the land instead of having a curriculum that teaches primary language (Filipino) and secondary language (English) at the same time in the elementary level. In addition our schools should inculcate to Filipino students our own culture and tradition in the subject MAPEH, more particularly Arts, because it is slowly deteriorating due to lack of attention by the government and as well as the Filipino people. So that Filipinos would grow their sense of nationality and would learn to love their own language. By doing these, it endeavours to grow a sense of pride in the Filipino language and as well as supporting our own products. It is known to us that the Philippines is a multilingual country mainly caused by the scattered islands, with these, it also encourages unity within Filipino people because language can bind people together. By cultural resonance we will learn to appreciate more our own country and respect other province’s culture because after all we are all Filipinos living in the same country.

I suggest that the unifying factors of ethnic nationalism should modernize in which they should be willing to accept and adapt change. Language, religion, ancestry, and place of birth are currently the primary cause of division among men. Such factors should not act as barriers or forces that lead to conflicts.
An example is the roots of religion, beliefs and ancestry which the Moro people of Mindanao use as their tool for their separation. History is essential but so as adapting to the changing systems. In order to avoid conflict with change, one must be willing to accept, flow and develop.

Emanating from a series of social and political unrest, the present supra-nation European Union should curtail its delusion with the conception of immediate and absolute unification of its member nations. The policies, decisions, and rules arranged by the European Union are not opt to preserve optimum interest of each ember nations but to assert the EU collectively. As a result, this has induce depreciation in minor countries which are often compromised. Examples are certain capabilities of European Union to mandate over the government of its member countries and the discrimination towards possible member by biasly focusing in institutions that are based in Brussels and Luxembourg. Such dilemma hampers the supposed procedural unification of the economic, political, and cultural behemoth. The government should prioritize to educate the people in terms of the importance of having the sense of nationalism as the path to attain progress. The people might differ in cultural beliefs but they can be united through a common idea and build their own nation. The entitlement of land territory to the indigenous tribes of the Philippines is a way of improving Ethnic nationalism. Land grabbing is a problem that results not only to human rights violations, but also to natives' migration; an act attributed to the failure of cultural preservation. Thus, land appropriations prevent migration. It also highlights the importance of land territory for the Filipinos. For instance, there is the growing support for the Lumads' land struggle, along with the continuing unity against the case of Foreign Military Bases and contested islands such as the Spratlys. Land is a reflection of the nationals' identity, just like how territory is fundamental to the state. Upholding land rights is a way of improving Ethnic nationalism in the Philippines.

Improving ethnic nationalism would be much suited for one instead of an artificial nationalism mainly for the reason that there is no need of the high influences of such foreigners because they may simply take over or even corrupt the individuals of the subject. Ethnicity must be the main theme of nationalism. In ethnicity, there would be a religious, a linguistic and common heritage and that is why in the Philippines, education must be the main concern of the government. Language plays a vital part in this and preserving the native tongue will give purpose to the identity of Filipinos. Faith also has a significant role in the nation since during the Spanish era. Such ethnics should never perish especially during such times of evolving. Campaigns of the government must be aimed to the improvement of the current system of education in the country, and even the simplest traditions ought to be preserved.

Mindanao, as the major island located in the south of the Philippines, has been long excluded in the community of the country. The precise reasons for this exclusion aside from the location of the island are the alienation of the locals in the island by those coming from the North of the country, particularly from Manila, and continuous discrimination of the Muslim Community. The national government then must give aid to the local governments in the island being excluded and Muslim Community through supporting the significance of private sector and withdraw of military in the politics. In Turkey, the withdrawal of military opened the door for democracy in the country. While the Suharto regime in Indonesia supported for Islam with participation in global trade. The inclusion of the excluded, particularly in the Philippines as the concerned being discussed, is to entail or draw near one identity in the country.

I suggest that the government make an act for the people from different regions that have different languages and culture to have their own voices or representatives even with different languages. Having a lot of islands can be a disadvantage because people are far from each other and speak differently because of culture and this is to help the people maintain their ethnic nationalism. Since there is a difference between the languages of the Filipinos, even though they live in one country, having a representative to stand and voice out the needs of each people would be useful. This not only makes it easier for the people to understand each other but also for the people to respect each other despite their differences. This can help build respect between people and people will also be able to understand and be more interactive with each other. The culture of the people cannot change suddenly and it is better to adjust than to change a culture that has been there for a thousand years. Also these different cultures represent the country and it gives us our own identity.

In order to implement nationalism in the country is that to have “commonness” to the people. As we have studied a million times in history, we were easily undermined by the colonizers due to the fact that we are divided; so I would like to propose dialogues with different ethnic groups with the urbanized sector, in a way that we will be able to build coherence but will not disturb the diverse culture with one another. A suggested way to implement my proposal would be, for example is, the indigenous people should have a strong powerful representative in a way that when the congress are drafting bills they would have a voice. The dialogues between those who are marginalized would build a bond thus making them as that they are part of the country. Another method for my proposal is that to have a unified history and a single idol. As we are seeing today the Philippines is divided due to an altered history or teaching; majority are the pro-Marcos and the anti-Marcos, we should fix the history whitewashed o0r altering to unify the people. And another path for unifying the nation is for the government to finally to choose our national hero, because a different mind-set of the people can be a factor that will result for the people to be diverse.
