    1. One Political Thesis that I remember from class the one about Karl Marx's Thesis on Capitalism, where he also gave its Anti-Thesis: Socialism, and its synthesis Communism. So Capitalism is a political system, taken from what Marx said that people in power, namely the capitalists, who take advantage of the labourer's because its inevitable that they need them. This in turn highlights what capitalism creates, a clash of between social classes that Marx does not want at all. Marx then gave Capitalism's Anti-Thesis which is known as Socialism. Socialism is another Political concept that tells us that in a socialist system, there would be no need for social classes, and the accumulation of wealth that would bring an immediate balance where society would be equal and be afforded the same benefits with one another. The application of these Political ideas is already in effect, look at western countries, most of them apply capitalistic ideologies, while eastern countries apply a more socialistic-communistic ideology that focuses on equality more than self improvement. The application of these political ideologies has lead to conflict of interests between western and eastern countries, to name a few The USA and China.

    2. Political Concepts that can help me in my future from what i believe is Leadership, Accountability and Values. First talking about leadership, Leadership for me is being able to take up responsibility and being able to lead or guide people to do the right objectives. Leadership will also improve my overall self-esteem, confidence and mindset that since, I believe I can do an action right then I can serve my followers better. Accountability is now when if I make a mistake I would take full responsibility of whatever action I made. This Concept for me improves myself in away that it reflects who I am as a person and a leader. If even on person acknowledges that i have this then I'd say I have done well. Lastly, Values this is the most important of all, how can one person lead people if he himself does not have the right values in himself, Values can dictate the actions a person does, thats why if i don't have values then I cannot perform any of my responsibilities well enough.

    1. One of the thesis discussed in class was proving that a Dictatorial type of government is like the game of chess in which if the king falls, the nation also falls, the proofs of this statement can be listed down but i will first define what a dictatorial government looks like. A state under a person who has complete control over all three branches of government, these branches being the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary is under a dictatorial type of government, in which no one can do what they want unless it is aligned with the Dictator's will. Now to escape this type of government, someone must take out the dictator, If the dictator dies, the group with him will lose power and the people will be free. One example in history is the Marcos government, he ruled the Philippines for decades and the moment that the people decided to take him out, all of his right hand men and his puppets lost as well, and from a dictatorial government we became a democracy. But this argument is not perfect, look at the state of North Korea, the previous dictator has already died and still they are not free. The nation is till closed and North Korea still looks like you will be shot if you take a picture of the Border. However with the two histories mentioned, the idea of knowing what a dictatorial government is and it's weaknesses will help in a sense that it will serve as a warning bell, so that people will watch out if someone tries to make one. And the governed may prevent Dictatorship from governing their lives and their children's lives.

    2. Environmentalism, Corporatism, and Pacifism are 3 basic political science concepts that were very hard to find because almost everything is generally discussed in class. These political theories will be useful in the future because someday I will make my own political theory, and i need to study all the theories in order to make my own personal theory that might become an ideology someday. Environmentalism will help me point the people proper ways to manage resources. Corporatism will help me understand activists and economic actors in the society and make me decide whether to eliminate them or make them join my cause. lastly pacifism will point my mind to think that better is a peaceful man than a warrior. These will just be small parts in what theory i can think of in the future as a future leader of this nation, I may not be a president, but i will have my family one day, and learning from these theories will help me guide the basic unit of government in the society.

    1. A political thesis that this student will be explaining is Huntington's thesis about political science needing a strong democracy to flourish. It can be argued that this preposition can be proven true just like in strong democratic countries like the United States and England, for the former which has a strong political science program like that of the University of Chicago and Oxford University for the latter. Another argument that can be made to support Huntington’s thesis is at China because it China is not well known for producing political science scholars. Although the thesis is supported with facts which are hard to deny, a case can be made for Chile, which is as exemption to the rule. Chile underwent drastic political science improvement during their 17 year long dictatorial government, but for it to happen it needed major events to fall in place at the favor of political scientists, like the lifting of the book censorship ban. The rise of political science in Chile could be used as an anti-thesis for Huntington’s thesis. Nevertheless, Huntington’s thesis can be applied all over the world because it is truly a fact that with a democratic government, more freedom is given to people to be able to use their political minds, it can be applied to countries like the Philippines, Canada, and United States.

    2. Three political concepts that will be useful to this student are Conservatism, Socialism, and Democratic socialism. With the concept of conservatism, it will help this student place importance on keeping the same old culture, traditions, and stability. People with the concept of conservatism tend to want order and stability in society which will help them maintain harmony within the community. Another concept that will help this student is Socialism because this student wants high-quality and equal life for everyone with a state that is persistent in achieving this goal, which are also the goals of socialism. There are different variations of socialism and the third concept that will help this student in the future will be democratic socialism. This type of socialism makes use of power in a democratic way, as opposed to the Marxist-Leninist type of socialism which uses violence to achieve order in the society. Democratic socialism will help this student become a protector of the people and value the rights and freedom of others, with this type of political concept, the student may become slightly a totalitarian but it will not attempt to control everything in the society to provide freedom for everyone.

1.) John P. McCormick's thesis inspired by Guicciardini and Machiavelli on Roman, Venetian and Florentine Constitutions explains that wealthy use their power to benefit themselves rather than for the common. To have popular control, McCormick said that Magistrate Appointments, Lottery and Election should be used. With that, his thesis was inspired by Guicciardini who said that mixing lottery and election would make everything accountable, there will be no biases because lottery will choose the people who will nominate the candidates and the candidates nominated will again be voted through election to fill certain positions. On the other hand, the thesis is also inspired by Machiavelli who believes that there should be a class-specific and excludes the wealthy from any institution. With John McCormick’s thesis, he contained the wealthy and patrol the Magistrates, there is a mixture of aristocratic and democratic institutions which only has one goal, to reduce the political impact of inequality.
2.) One Political Science concept that I choose is Power. Power as one knows, the ability of any actor to enforce laws, to influence others, to make others to what they want and many more, I believe that power will help me in the future because it will help me remember that I am a citizen of a country that has the power, I will always remember that I have the power in this country, to vote, to speak up and many more. Another political Science Concept that I choose is Order. I learned that there can never be order without leadership; this will help me in the future because whatever career or profession I’m in, I will always remember that Political Science taught me that everything will be in its greatest when there is order. And the last political concept that I choose is Justice. Someday, I may be a lawyer and justice will help me more inspired because I am a defender of justice, I want Justice and I help other people who seek justice because as a Political Science major, this is how we live.

    1. I used the thesis of McCormick. During the class discussion McCormick differentiate the kinds of "voting". Voting has many kinds. But as a democratic country, people most likely to vote their official who is rich, has lot of funds and influential. Unlikely, if we use McCormick's that we can mix our voting system with "lot". So people who is not that fortunate can still be the official of the country. We can nominate people by lot and elect them, vice versa. For me this thesis' political idea is Classical Liberalism because it emphasize the freedom of the from the limit of the government. They can nominate and elect the official they want.
    2. My 3 basic political concept that will help me in the future is justice, civil rights and conservatism. As a assuming to be a lawyer, justice is very important to me because as i see in our country there's a lot of inequality here in the country, mostly the rich always win in the cases in the court because they have more power and money to pay unlike the poor. Second, civil rights because it protects the freedom of the people from the government. People can do such things because they have freedom from the government but they should still obey the law because it is the law and that will also help me in many ways. Lastly, is conservatism because it still help me to values and loyalty we have in our country, i obey laws because of my being conservatives and that serve me to prevent breaking laws and such.

    1. One of the political thesis discussed was the Socialism. Socialism is a system that the society has no official property because everything is owned by the government. As the Marxist theory to anti-thesis for capitalism which lead to socialism that the people in society wants to achieve the equality through the control of their government. Their economy is owned by the government officials and the people doesn't receive any benefit from the officials. They have unequal distribution of their economy, because their condition in society is controlled by the government. Everyone has a right to live in an equal life in a state.

    2. Political ideologies like Conservatism, because in the future we still have traditional values in our society. It will be useful because i still have a tradition in the place and loyalty to the country and God. And it will never change our traditional values even in the future. Liberalism, it will be useful because as an individual, i have a right to enjoy my life in the future. And have an equality in every aspects. Lastly, Socialism as a citizen in the society in the future, everyone of us have an access in equality and also political equality for the benefit of the people in the future leaders.

    1) Samuel P. Huntington's thesis discusses how in a democratic country political science flourishes or it grows with the anti-thesis of how in an authoritarian country political science does not develop. The proofs provided with democratic countries like the United States is a country where political science is really flourishing, there are masters degrees, schools that are specializing in political science. Whereas in authoritarian countries like China political science is not given any importance and so it does not flourish. As we discussed about how Samuel P. Huntington's thesis was not applicable to Chile it provided that in certain countries that are authoritarian like Chile political science can flourish. Practical applications would be that in making political science grow we do not need to be restrained by such concepts as to having an authoritarian regime in our country. Also, political science is such a discipline that will flourish with the people's attitude.
    2) The first political science concept would be the political party systems. This would be useful to me in the future because I have plans but I am not yet sure about running for office and it would be useful for me to know what is being used or applied in our country because political party systems are all about how many political parties there are and how they relate in the government. This is very relevant because I need to know the basics first before I jump into something I am not familiar with. Second would be the concept of Individual political beliefs because in knowing what type of orientation I am in I could learn to develop myself more on what my principles are really all about. This is useful because in pursuing what I want I need to be clear about what I am preaching. And third, the concept of politics and economics. This is about how the economy of the state is doing in relation to how the people involved in the government react to the rise and fall of the market and this would be very useful for me in the future if I do pursue one of my goals in running for office or being one of the people entrusted with the power in developing our country because the economy is one of the many factors that decides how the state can function.

    1. One of the political theses discussed is Huntington's Thesis. The thesis is about how democracy affects political science' strength and weakness to the people. That wherever democracy is strong, political science is strong and wherever democracy is weak, political science follows, it becomes weak as well. The thesis also differentiates western countries from the non-western ones focusing mainly on how Islam will affect the other continents. The proofs of this thesis can be seen in the post-Cold War events. Heine's article is an anti-thesis statement proving that democracy is not the basis of political science' strength and weakness coming from what happened to Chile. This Thesis applies to people who migrate to different countries wherein their beliefs clash, have language barriers and are from a different race.

    2. Three political science concepts that will be useful in the future are: Power, Political Systems and Justice. Power, it will help by knowing how to imply Force, Exchange and Mutuality with your people. Political Systems, some examples are monarchies, democracies and dictatorships. Political Systems helps us understand what is the government's real purpose or what can the government do in these circumstances. And lastly, Justice. Justice means a fair and equal treatment to every individual, may the person be a government official or a businessman. Justice helps us know how to treat each and every person equally and know what right from wrong is.

    1. One political thesis discussed was the thesis of Heine about the Chilean regime ruled by Pinochet. It was considered to be the most brutal regime in Chile. People were tortured, killed and some even disappeared. The universities was controlled by the military, this regime lasted for 17 years. This was considered to be Totalitarian, since the government was ruled by only one and it they controlled everything. People doesn't have any freedom for themselves. There was chaos because of the brutality of the government at that time.

    2. Three political concepts that I think will be useful are Parliamentary, Authoritarian and Conservatism. Parliamentary because there will be fusion of powers in the executive and the legislative. It will lessen the conflicts between the two branches of the government. Authoritarian because there will be discipline implied by the government to the people. At the same time they will still be some freedom for the people. Conservatism, for me because it is easier for the people to adopt a concept that is already in there tradition. If they are already used to something. they will not revolt against it.

    1. In McCormick’s thesis, he mentioned that there is a huge discrepancy between classes, mainly the wealthy and the poor, and these discrepancies often lead to a biased way of holding office in a way that the wealthy is advantageous. He came up with an idea of reincarnating two early 16th century Florentine Republicans, Guicciardini and Machiavelli, which McCormick used to revive the argument wherein the wealthy and the people holding office enjoy certain resources. He revived the idea of lottery and election; the two were differentiated on what aftermath they bring. Lottery connotes human equality and is present in ancient democracies, while election is mostly based on a person’s interest, plays a vital role in voting and is more likely to be elitist. However, lottery, despite the fact that it is considered more democratic, I think is not that democratic in way that it diminishes the participation of the populace with its randomization despite the fact that it does not have much possibility of oligarchy, for the word democracy itself from the word “demos,” incorporates the “many” in the society. Yet, the hybrid of lottery and election, for me, may eradicate the elitism and at the same time involve the mass if election is used in nominating candidates and lottery with its random approach is used to appoint a person to office.

    2. The three basic concepts that would be useful for me in the future would be: Power, Government and the encryption of science in Political Science. Power plays a vital role in my future in a way that power is somewhat the foundation of Political Science, which is the maneuvering through constraints with the use of power, and it is basically what we are dealing with. The Government is a concrete example of power itself, and the way it maneuvers through the constraints it what different theories, beliefs and philosophies are centered upon. It is useful because the government is inevitable because we are all part of it and is affected by it and its inevitability is somewhat a “sign” that we need to understand its whole existence. The “science” in political science is the incorporation of methodological approaches such as the use of surveys and research. It is also useful in a way that we are reminded the rigor we are about to experience in the future.

1.An example of a Political Thesis is the feature of Jorge Heine entitled “Democracy, Dictatorship, and the Making of Modern Political Science: Huntington’s Thesis and Pinochet’s Chile”. In this feature, Huntington’s Thesis concluded that democracy is needed to flourish the political science in a particular place or location. He stated that where democracy is weak, political science is also weak. But in Chile, they look it different from what Huntington concluded in his thesis. In Chile, political science did flourish even though they are under military regime because they had all the marks of a flourishing profession. This only means that democracy is not the thing needed to flourish political science but the intelligence do people have.

2.Social Cohesiveness is one of the attitudes that a political scientist possess. With this, you were able to socialize with other people, you need to be united with them in principles or relationships and be an out-spoken individual to hold each other’s interest. Another is each Power which is the possession of control towards everything. Another is Leadership which is popularly defined as the ability of an individual to lead his/her jurisdiction. These political concepts will help me in the future though each one of us can be a politically inclined person not obviously but if you look unto it you’ll find out. These can be the enhancers of my personality.

1.Political Science; Huntington’s Thesis and Pinochet’s Chile, he discussed and argued there about the thesis made by Samuel P. Huntington about Political Science in a democratic government and about Chile, under Pinochet’s rule. He argues that Huntington’s thesis is wrong. By using Chile under the rule of Pinochet as a basis, he said, that a country doesn't need to be democratic in order for Political Science to flourish and develop. In Chile, after 17 years of dictatorship, political science as a discipline came to its own during. Heine claims that there should be some amendments in Huntington’s thesis.

    2. Being Rational, normative and effective leader- i think these will help me in my future. If I wish to become an effective leader, i need to be rational and normative; thinking correctly, and at the same time, behaving correctly. For me, in order to show correct behavior and correct thinking, a person should be just and strict at the same time. he should be implementing rules with a tight hand but must be sure that he shows equal justice to the people. Reading the different theories of Political Science, it gave me an idea on how to become an effective leader. If I were to be one of the politicians one day, I could apply the things I've learned in my future career.

    1. One thesis discussed in class is Huntington’s work. He believed that democracy is the primary factor for Political Science to flourish in any place. There are a lot of evidences to prove his beliefs, one of which is the United States, where prestige political science universities are found. But despite the facts discussed earlier, a professional from Chile named Jorge Heine wrote an anti-thesis with regards to Huntington’s thesis. As a person who witnessed the growth of Political Science in Chile under a military regime, he discussed thoroughly that democracy is not the main factor but the knowledge and researches that those people at that time accumulated over the years. These studies of Huntington and Heine brought strength to people to fight for what is right and encouraged many to be inclined into studying about the government and the state more like what happened to Chile, from 3 private research centers it became 49.
    2. There are a lot of political concepts introduced in this class but I believe that these three could help me the most: justice, moral values and decision making. It is not enough that our decisions are equal, it must be just. Couple of years from now, I may be a part of the bench already and to be able to exercise the law properly and to impose fairness, I must always remember that the law may be harsh but it is the law. But let’s not forget that we are still children of God, we must live our lives without stepping unto someone’s life. I do believe that my life wouldn’t be happy if I’m too empirical, I must balance everything. And with everything I do, with every decision I make, I would be the one to be blame. So I must think hundreds or even thousands of time before making a decision. I must always combine values and science. Like the Judicial, they are just but not immoral and their decisions are final because they’ve thoroughly studied and analyzed everything already.

    1. I chose, John P. McCormick as my political thesis. As I've learned in the discussion, McCormick wants to implement to us, that having a different way of voting can change the inequalities between the wealthy and the poor. Just like when we have mixing lottery in election. Obviously, we do random picking in lottery. So if we do it in a way of election, common or unwealthy people have a chance to hold an offices. Unlike in normal election, those who have the money dominates in offices because they have actually the money. They can easily do their campaign and be popular to thier towns because of money. In that way, McCormmick wants to differenciate the wealthy citizen are more influential than those common people.

    2. 3 basic political science concepts that will be useful to you in the future were probably, hardworkship, the leadership and being independent. As I entered the class of Mr. Castillo, I've already know that I should do all my best.Hardworking is one of the things that I think it will be useful in my future. Because if I don't have the perseverance in life, I think I can't achive what I want to. Being a student in political science, Im dreaming to be in politics someday. Because I want to change what's happening on our gov't right now. Leadreship can help me. Because I can be a responsible politicain someday if i don't go on bad influences. Lastly, being independent. Someday, i can do whatever I want in my own. But I will not use it in bad way. Beacuse on of the thing I've learned in this sem, being responsible enough in actions because we're growing up and practicing a being professional someday.

1.) McCormick identified different theoretical combinations in nominating candidates. He indentifies that the most democratic among them is using lot and election together because lot determines candidates which all the citizens can participate not likely in the election only the wealthy can participate. In this theoretical combination, because the final decision of office-holding is by election the nobility and wealthy is confident that they will not attain these offices for the poor people think that the wealthy may use their tenure of office in corrupting the government. According to McCormick(2006) identifies that this kind of regime is closed to on that of Aristotle’s “ideal government”, because different parties can participate and contribute their different positive agendas for the betterment of their country. Manin(1997) claims that this kind of regime is stable cause neither the oligarchs nor the people can assure that they can hold the office. However, there are implications in this type of regime, if the selected leader of a certain country doesn’t know anything about public administration, he/she may impose a law and makes an experiment throughout the citizens, and if the selected leader is an oligarch he/she may make him/herself more wealthy because he/she has an access to the public’s funds. This type of regime is best applied in a democratic country, because all the people who wants to run for office but don’t have enough money to provide for campaign materials can participate through lottery or random picking of names of the citizens. Thus, there is a possibility for a better leader to be elected.

2.) The three basic political concepts that will be useful to me in the future is power, political ideology(classical liberalism), and political behavior. In power it can help me in the future if I want to change something about the government I have the power to act as a member of the country to oppose whatever the government implies and I can always have the initiative to make a move by proposing a bill that will benefit my fellow citizens. In political ideology such as classical liberalism, if ever I run for the office in any positions in the government, I can use my power to implement equal rights to those people who are less fortunate to the one’s who are rich. I can use my power to have each individual to enjoy his/her natural rights. In political behavior, I can use this in the future in terms of how I interact with other people. And I can use this knowledge of political behavior in determining on how to act properly or how to interact with other colleagues.

    1. One political thesis that was discussed in class, thought not discussed completely is Huntington's thesis in which he states that there is no political science in a place where there is no political participation. He argues that political science perishes in Dictatorships and flourishes in Democracies. Dictators customarily take all political power in their own hands and this abolishes the relationship of the state and government, thus political science (the study of the state and government) decays. However, in Chile, political science still flourished albeit of the country's military regime and this stands as an anti-thesis to Huntington's thesis. This political idea of Huntington can be applied to contemporary democracies. For example, if the government of a democratic country was to be converted to a Dictatorial government, democracy in that country will apparently be lost and political science will also be lost.

    2. One political concept that will be helpful to me in the future is Liberalism. Liberalism states that a person has freedom to do and pursue whatever he wants, and that a person possesses rights that he cannot be deprived of. This will be useful to me, for when I become a lawyer, I will protect the people's rights and freedom.
Another political concept that I think will be useful to me is political economy. Whenever the time comes that I hold a certain office in the government of our country, I will use my knowledge of political economy to ameliorate the country's economy because it is important for the people.
Lastly, political structures of the government will also be useful to me because it discusses the framework of the government which I have to study while I take up political science and for future applications when I pursue a career probably in politics.

    1. McCormick, on his thesis, said that choosing officials through lottery is more democratic than choosing through election. It is more democratic because when people choose, they are easily manipulated by the wealthy, having more money and at most times, more skills on convincing. Also, the wealthy wanted a narrow regime where only they are the ones with power. Lottery gives everyone equal chances of being appointed. Guicciardini and Machiavelli had looked into the early electoral processes in Florence, having lot election of nominators then election of nominees by the great council, and in Rome, and their findings were used for support of this thesis. Though, to satisfy what the wealthy wants, Machiavelli suggested that sixty-five life tenured elites be should put in senate.

    2. Three concepts that I learned are inequality, responsibility, and liberalism. First, responsibility taught me to act fast and manage everything in order to succeed. Inequality made me realize that each individual is unique in his own way and that questioning another’s preferences is not a good idea. Lastly, liberalism had taught me that putting too much restraints on people will make them fight back so you should not be too totalitarian.

    1. One political thesis discussed/mentioned in class is Karl Marx's capitalism. It is a political system in which there's a clash between working class and capitalists. It means there's free market economy where government will not intervene. But socialism is the anti-thesis for capitalism because it shows that there's equality in the society. Adding the government makes the society more united because their role is to assist them in achieving their goals.

    2. The political science concepts that will be useful to me in the future are Power, Environmentalism, and Feminism. The use of power will help me how to control a group of people in a good way. Equal rights are given to the citizens for the common good. Environmentalism will help me promote ways how to manage resources properly. And lastly, Feminism will help me advocate that men and women's rights are equal.

1.) According to McCormick's thesis, there are two ways of selecting magistrates: by means of lottery and by election. Lottery is done by randomization while election is done with a system of voting. Election is conducted for the citizens to have their representatives who can be their voice and act for their interests. On the other hand, lottery is conducted to give chance to the poorer citizens to be input into office. This shows that lottery is more democratic than election because it exhibits equal political participation among the citizens. But neither of the two has evidence that those who are put into office are good enough to provide the common good of the people.

2.) To be an effective political scientist in the future, one must possess power. The power to govern or to command and to influence the citizens to do a specific action for the benefit of the state. Another political science concept that can help me to be an effective political scientist in the future is to have a value of judgment.Having the right value of judgment can help me to be more careful with the decision that I will make especially when making laws. Lastly and the most important basic political concept is science. Because science can help me to be more objective and to set aside any emotional involvement.

    1. Huntington's thesis claims that "where political science is strong, democracy is strong . . ." That may be true since the people, most especially the political scientists in a democratic country can freely conduct research and studies. The anti-thesis is that political science flourished in General Pinochet's regime, an authoritarian one. In the Philippines, large number of students are enrolled in political science and political scientists can express their ideas and opinions without fear because Philippines is a democratic country.

    2. First, understanding the political-economic framework is important because economics is undeniably a part of the study of the state. Inevitably, the state influences economy that is why a student engaged in the study of the state must have the basic knowledge of it. Second, the concept of whether judicial review is democratic or undemocratic is essential since some political science students plan to enter law school. Lastly, political participation concept is practicable to know because it sums up all of our objectives why we study political science, that is, to participate and make a stand or change in the government.

    Answers:

1.) The Thesis of Huntington that political science is dependent to democracy. In his thesis he said that political science flourished in democracy kind of regime government, and the weaker the democracy gets the weaker political science become. He stated some empirical statement that like in China, when he said that they may have great athletes and artist but in their regime that is communist they do not produce distinguished political scientist. But as Heine contest as his basis is the Chilean government under a military regime political science surprisingly flourished. He said that this phenomena can be explain in many possibilities, but the main concept is straight forward scientific progress, the accumulation of data and institutions developing and when this happened the discipline ( political science) advances. I therefore conclude that political science will absolutely flourished more in a democratic regime but it does not mean that when democracy is gone political science will vanished, may be it will be suppressed by the dictatorial regimes but will not vanish because the accumulation of data is endless in this discipline and inevitably will lead to advancement.

2.) I think the speech of Franklin should be first mentioned, because from him I learned that political scientist must know first everything before knowing something. This is the first thing that I learned upon studying this program and set a principle that I will do also in the future. Second is the "writing as a discipline" is also an essential concept on political science, because here it teaches us to do good and articulate excellent writing without committing the six evil geniuses in our work. And it is significant also on y future because it will enhance me not just on writing good paper works but thinking also articulately and connecting what in my mind into my writing. And lastly is the speech of Huntington, even it is just a part of Heine article he said there that political science is not just a discipline or a profession but it is the impetus to do good in promoting reformations if needed, and this essence of common good is embedded in our discipline. It will help me in future because i will became it and it will be my philosophy and in the long run it will be a part of me, after all I chose political science and will be my life.

    1. Thomas Hobbes' concept of state of nature highlights how man has the tendency or desire towards conflict or war. Therefore, Hobbes believes that in order to secure the welfare of the members of society, sovereign authority is required and that the people must submit to one central authority who has the power over all aspects of government. It is evident in our society that someone always wants to be more superior over the other, always competing with each other in order to survive, and distrustful to other people. This may prove how Hobbes saw the tendency of man towards war. However, a government whose trust from the people is demanded and not gained is not a healthy and stable government simply because the trust is not voluntarily submitted by the people, some may have only been forced to do so. And it is known for a fact that when the people are not happy with how a ruler runs the government, they are likely to revolt which may later on lead to the downfall of the government. Hobbes' concept is very significant because his idea of authority which requires the people to submit their trust to him in order to achieve peace may be applied by present governments in cases of domestic or foreign conflict or they may apply the concept's opposite which is more likely to yield positive results.

    2. First political science concept that I believe will be very useful to me is the idea of knowing the different preferences expressed by either the representative or his constituents in the Miller Stokes paradigm because it made me understand the very basic of being a public servant, and this is behavior towards representation. Another concept is that of McCormick's lot and election. Although I wasn't totally convinced of his lot concept, it inspired to someday formulate a concept which would be able to distribute the magistracy not only to the wealthy but also to those who show potential in a democratic way. Lastly, the concept of democracy because through studying political science, my eyes were opened to the current situation of democracy in the Philippines, which I find very shallow and still has a lot more to go. This concept of democracy; where the people are more involved in political issues and decision makings and is capable of self governance, that I learned will definitely be useful to me in the future especially in my plans to uplift the credibility of the government as well as the people's knowledge of it.

    1. John P. McCormick, inspired by the early sixteenth century Florentine Republicans, Francesco Guicciardini and Niccolo Machiavelli, in his thesis "Contain the Wealthy and Patrol the Magistrates: Restoring ELite Accountability t Popular Government", discussed the political impact of resource inequality as a prevailing problem in the contemporary democracy. He said that Election, whether a wealthy likes it or not keeps them on having position in office. This is because the wealthy has the capability to fund, groom and/or bribe non-wealthy citizens. Even if a magistrate was put into office through lottery-election process, people always tend to choose the most competent or good-looking in the election part. He also contended that Lottery is more democratic compared to Election. This is because in lottery, random distribution of office among all social classes is guaranteed.
Providing an anti-thesis, the concept of lottery-election applied to a mass of a big country is not ideal. For example, in the Philippines. Putting someone into government office through lottery is greatly prohibited and not practiced. Lottery, when applied to Philippines which is a third world country would create social issues. Filipinos might not want the idea of waiting for so long and lottery-election takes long time to be done. This is why the time of Election in the Philippines is defined by its Constitution. It may be debated that some practice lottery in the Philippines. But if observed, lottery is only used in small groups, especially when people in the group don't know each other and when a group is newly formed, immediate governance is needed.

    1. 2. Political Behavior, Political System and Political Economy are some of the political concepts that would be useful for me in the future. I believe that if faith does make me a future leader of this country, I should learn about political behavior. As a leader you must know your people, what they want and how they should be governed. Political System, as a leader you must know the function and separation of powers of your country to be able to function well and lastly political economy, example is the tax, without tax, there is no government and without government, there is not one to protect and secure a country. There would be no unty.

    1. A political thesis that is discussed in class was the Huntington's thesis. It is about the democracy promoting political reform. It has been flourished in United States, where says that China, is not a well-known for it's political science scholarship but rather than in the fields of sports and arts. A discipline needed for a country like China needs to be suppressed under dictatorial rule. Another country is Chile, it has presented a contrary to received opinion. They undergone a brutal regime under the military before that universities were intervened. Huntington's thesis about democratic government can be also applied in other countries like in the Philippines, democracy is about freedom and power that people can use to be part of their place.

    2. The three political concepts that will be useful for me in the future are Socialism, Classical Liberalism and Conservatism. In Socialism, people have the equality in terms of the conditions in life, the individuals have their goal and they have the qualities of not being aggressive and selfish. Classical Liberalism, you can do whatever you want as long as you are responsible and rational. Freedom has it;s highest value and equality before the law is more important. Lastly, Conservatism, it can help you remember the traditions, belief and values. It can prevent the transition of social and traditional values fade and to maintain the social order that is very important for individuals.

    1. Spoliation Politics is the corruption of the government by which the officials take control of the people's property, oppression of liberty is present and slavery as well. This has been legal and is continuously prevailing nowadays. With this kind of system, maltreatment of human rights is rampant thus preventing people from their freedom to speak, to act and to fight for their beliefs. However, with all the bad sides of spoliation, states with this set up did not stop from developing and progressing nowadays. China, Hongkong, Taiwan are just some of the states with legal spoliation. We all know that these countries are economically stable.

    2. Power, Leadership and Equality are the basic 3 concepts that I will certainly adapt for my career growth. Power is the ability of one actor to influence another to obey the former. It will help me in passing my ideas to people for the goodness of this nation. Leadership is the initiative of implementing goals to the development of groups or systems. I will be independent in making decisions and will not rely on commands but at the same time I will still be a leader who will be able to listen. Equality will remind me not to be discouraged by the power of the elites over the commons, politically speaking. I will be pursuing my goals/dreams without doubts in which this course have implanted in me.

In Huntington's thesis, it was said that political is not flourish in authoritarian government and said that democracy government was a stronger and flourish in the other hand Chilean Leader Pinochet an authoritarian leader prove that it could be flourish in the said government.

political concept that I could use, would be the Political Ideologies. Understanding this makes me more conscious in different political actors and it also made us knows what types are we. Liberalism, conservatism or socialism. The other one is about the lottery being more democratic stated by McCornick because it gives fair chances to everyone (rich, poor, popular or not). And the last one is the power that the government have and how it can lead to a dictatorship when leader use it in wrong way which is the abusive use of power.

1.) Capitalism is an economic system that is based on free market. There is open competition among private establishments and has very little control by the government. Where as in socialism, there is a balance of control by the government and private corporation. Some companies are own by the state and they openly intervene in the economy but most production policies and decision making are private. Everyone who contributes to the production in entitled to a share so there is a balance in ownership by the society in general.

2.) Three basic political science concepts that would be useful to me in the future would be the following: first is power which is the ability to influence an individuals or group of people to follow my command or orders because of the position I have attained. Second is democracy which refers to freedom to do anything that is not contrary to the law. This will help me by giving freedom to others to achieve the goals set. And lastly, values. It is the most important of all because this defines how we behave towards others. If your values are based on doing what is right not only in the eyes of men but more particularly in the eyes of God, you will learn to observe and not violate the law

1.) I would like to explain McCormick's thesis. In his thesis, McCormick's he discussed about mixing lottery and election. He said that the most democratic way is by pure lottery because the faith will decide who will be the next leader. In that case, the wealthy will have lesser chance of gaining victory. However, what if the chosen one is not as knowledgeable as those who are wealthy. It might be fair, but, it can bring disorder to the community. If it were to be applied nowadays, it should be applied with a safety measure and in a society where the people are used to this kinds of things.

2.) Political economy, international relations, and capitalism are the basic political concepts that I would like to explain. Political economy is the study of how a government produces and spend their resources. It can be within the country or all-over the world. Next is international relations, it is the study of how states make a good affinity with each other for a cause that will benefit their nations. Last is capitalism, capitalism is when the market is free from the hold of the government. Making them able to do what they want to be able to establish a good economy. These concepts will help me in expanding my wealth with the help of politics in the future if I were to continue in this track.

    1. The problems presented in McCormick's thesis is the inequality of the wealthy and poor. Also, in an era where election was done by popular vote, the poor had even less privileges. Whats worse is the wealthy who are already in office have an easy time staying in office. It was also said that the random lottery was more democratic. In randomly drawing lots, there would be less chances of vote by popularity unless that random lot you drew was the candidate you really wanted to be in office. The thesis had taken some examples from the works of Guicciardini and Machiavelli.

    2. The best concepts I can use in my future would be a mix of ideals from Authoritarianism, Democracy, and Socialism. While I would prefer the government being in charge of most of the aspects of the people's lives, like in Authoritarianism, I realize that the voice of the people is important. What I believe is that I should be someone who can do so much for other people. I should be of use to others in helping them whether as a government official or not. I should also be open to the criticism and opinions of others especially if those are what I need for my personal and spiritual growth. I would also strive to be fair and be a good leader, someone who wants a world where equality is one of the major things that I work hard for.

    1. Huntington's thesis says that political science is not all about intellectual virtue but it must be mixed with morality. It says that political scientists must not only use their brain in handling situations but they must also use their heart/conscience in order to do the right thing, the right decision. It is because decisions may be good intellectually but sometimes it violates the moral code. A good political scientist must always consider the things that will benefit the people the best which will not also harm them. The will to make a good change in politics is already inside of every good political scientist. A real political scientist already knows what is good for the many and will do his best in order to make this happen because the will is already inside him.

    2. The first political concept that will be useful to me in the future is "Democracy" where it is for the people and by the people and where rights are equal to everybody. This concept will help me realize the importance of equality that will make me treat others the way they must be treated as a person regardless their state in life. The second one is "Politics" where it is defined as the constraint use of social power. With this, i have learned that even though I have the power, I must still use it wisely because as I said, we are all made equally and the usage of that power given to me must also be good for the others. The third one is "Justice". This concept is one of the reasons why I want to become a lawyer someday because as a lawyer, I must serve justice to the one who is in need, who is right, but incapable to achieve what he really deserves.

1.) One of the thesis that is discussed or mentioned in class was the thesis of Huntington (as cited in Heine). His dissertation was political science flourishes when the type of government in that country is democratic. There is an evidence that can support Huntington's dissertation. One is the republic of the Philippines. Based from the status of the Philippines today, people can express and excel politically all because they are in a form of a Democratic government. Another example is the status of USA and as we all know America is a democratic government wherein people can express their own selves poltically. His anti- thesis was the thesis of Lowi. His dissertation was political science flourishes when the type of government of that country is dictatorial. Heine uses Chile during General Pinochet's regime as an example. The reason is because even if his kind of leadership is in the form of dictatorship, he manages to flourish political science in Chile.

    2. The three basic concepts that the writer may use in the future are the writing in the discipline, the history of the discipline and the political institutions. The writer chose the writing in the discipline because he believed that in order to make a good term paper or a thesis in the future, he or she must harness his political academic writing skills. In order to master it he must know the writing in the discipline. On the history of the discipline, he or she must know the past of political science so that he or she cannot redo the mistakes before. Lastly on political institutions, the definition of political science is the scientific study of the state and the government according to Hector de leon. A political science student must know the different institutions in order select his or her type of government so that he or she can lead efficiently.

1.) One political thesis discussed in class was John P. McCormick's thesis which is based on Francesco Guicciardini and Niccolo Machiavelli's theories on how to prevent the wealthy from attaining official seats through bribing their way in and manipulating the people and dominating the less wealthy.
To prevent such events it was concluded that election be used in tandem wit lot, this would prevent the wealthy from overpowering the poor, and both sides would have a chance of attaining an official seat. It was thought that by doing so less domination would occur and the rights and liberty of the people would be maintained.

2.) The three basic political concepts that i KNOW would be useful to me in the future, Leadership, Responsibility, and Justice. By applying these in my life my chances of becoming a successful political scientist are higher, for i learned how to become a better leader which is the main concept in studying political science, i am more responsible and aware of my duties, and lastly i learned to be honest, for honesty is the best policy.

    1. One political thesis we discussed in class is Samuel P. Huntington's thesis which proposes that the embellishment of political science is dependent on the strength of a state's democracy. Which in reverse says that political science weakens in an authoritarian regime due to the ruler’s dislike of the discipline. Huntington's thesis provides empirical evidences/proofs that uphold his proposition in the likes of United States' democracy, which political science is evidently fruitful and advancing. Pinochet's Chile is an exception to the rule as we had discussed. Political researches in the Institute of Political Science in Chile were in triumphant feat during Pinochet's military reign. Furthermore, political and most-likely democratic institutions subsisted in Pinochet's regime. Conclusively, the study of political science will endure on whatever regime is existent on a state as long as empirical and deductive applications are administered upon the discipline.

    2. The three political science concepts that will be most conducive for the continuance of this program and my future undertakings are political literacy, rational choice, and the ideologies. First, Political literacy, this incipient concept is the ability to think and speak intelligently about a certain issue regarding politics. This concept will be of much efficiency in the contrivance of my studies because it enables me to engage critically and craft my own logical argument if my will negates. Second, Rational choice, it is the role of reason over emotion in my decision making as a political scientist. This will come handy in every resolution that requires my stance. Last, the Ideologies, in its basic nature, ideologies are assumptions, beliefs, values, and ideas that guide one’s thinking and evaluation of such issues. In the case of mine, Ideas are integral to how I make my stand as a future political scientist. These ideas evoke emotions that profoundly challenge my rationality in political thinking. This I understood to be considerably contributive on how I shape my future as a political scientist.

    1. A particular political thesis that seemed to be remarkable to me is the one regarding the movie "V for Vendetta" which shows a totalitarian state as an authoritarian government. In the movie, with the said set-up, people are oblige to contain the principles of their leader whether or not they share the same beliefs. Furthermore, they already have roles in the state they are in provided that their status and gender would stick to the quo. Though they are proud of their government they are still enclosed in the environment of mere rules and regulations, therefore being a government of obligation and not of will. An accurate anti-thesis is the democratic practice of a government. One is entitled to have his own principle, opinion or 'say', thus the people have to oblige to the president but still act upon their own will. As a citizen experiencing democracy, I can chose the role I can portray therefore do what I want to do but of course with just limitations. All in all, a solution for totalitarianism is not the need for something to be done against it but the people's want to cure it, we call it 'peace'.

    2. As a political science student i should have virtues to instill my principles for the near future, if ever something may try to change it. I find three basic concepts to be remarkable and strong: political identity, order and behavior. In these vast world I have to know who am i and what do i want to be, the concept of political identity reminds me of what I should be as a person or as a politician in the near future. The concept of order makes me ask myself "What should I do to be respected?" In a community a leader should not be feared but respected so that his constituents follow him, thus maintaining peace and order. The third and most important of all is political behavior, "As a political animal how should i act?" these are the concepts that I know would shape me as a person and a politician in the near future
